How the Hyundai Sonata Stacks Up to the Competition

As your local Hardeeville and Savannah home for high-quality Hyundai models, we here at Hilton Head Hyundai could go on and on all day about all of the wonderful qualities Hyundai packs into each vehicle they make.

But, we know that there are a lot of cars out there vying for your attention, and, sometimes, only cold hard facts and numbers can help sway you one way or the other. If you're torn between our mid-sized sedan the Hyundai Sonata, and its competing model, the Altima from Nissan, read on.

Hilton Head Hyundai has put together this research page for you. We've done our homework, so you can approach your car-shopping experience with all the facts in hand.

The Hyundai Sonata vs. the Nissan Altima

  • Space. Both the Nissan Altima and the Hyundai Sonata are similarly sized. However, the Hyundai model makes more valuable use of its space, offering more room for passengers in all areas, and more cargo space.
  • Engine power. The base engine that comes standard in the Hyundai Sonata is more powerful than the base Altima engine. In fact, the Hyundai base engine delivers 185 horsepower from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, while the Nissan Altima base engine delivers 179 horsepower from a 2.5-liter four cylinder. Plus, the Hyundai Sonata has several more engines drivers can choose from, including a 245-horsepower four-cylinder, while the Nissan Altima has just one other available engine, and drivers have to go all the way up to the most expensive top trim to get it.
  • Hybrid options. For those Bluffton area drivers who prefer their vehicle with the fuel-sipping technology of a hybrid, the Hyundai Sonata is the way to go. Hyundai offers not one, but two hybrid versions of the Sonata, including a traditional hybrid and a plug-in. The Nissan Altima doesn't have a hybrid model anywhere in its lineup.

  • Trim level options. The Nissan Altima is only available in five trim levels, and the base trim is basic in regard to available equipment. The Hyundai Sonata, on the other hand, is available in seven different trims for the gas-powered model, plus it offers the additional two hybrid models that the Altima doesn't have. All base trim Hyundai Sonata vehicles are nicely equipped with the technology and features Hilton Head Island drivers want.
  • Features. The Hyundai Sonata, like all Hyundai models, comes standard with a long list of features that outnumbers the competition. In fact, Hyundai Sonata drivers can enjoy features such as heated mirrors and cruise control standard, starting at the base trim level. Nissan Altima drivers have to request more-expensive add-ons or move up trim levels to get these same features.
